Buying air purifiers can be expensive and uses energy–but did you know there’s a natural way to cleanse the air you breathe? Plants naturally absorb many of the airborne toxins and pollutants that can be harmful to humans and put out clean, breathable oxygen, and some plants are better at it than others.
Plants For Air Purification
1. Spider Plant
Spider Plants are great, because they’re super easy to grow and they self-proliferate, which means you’ll have a bunch of plant babies in no time! Give it bright, indirect sunlight and don’t overwater and these little guys will pull their weight in your home.
2. Aloe Vera
Air cleansing and versatile, these plants are some of the most useful around. Use the leaves for burns, and let it soak up some indirect sunlight.
3. Boston Fern
This plant requires a little more TLC, but is a grade-A champ at removing toxins from the air. Give them plant food weekly and water regularly and these plants won’t let you down.
4. Snake Plant/Mother-In-Law’s Tongue
Keep this plant fairly dry and in the sun and it will live forever. It looks classy and cleans the air to boot. Maybe don’t tell your mother-in-law this plant’s colloquial name.
5. English Ivy
Give this lovely little ivy part sun, part shade, and watch it grow! This beautiful accent piece will make your air clean and sweet in no time.
6. Pothos
These plants are nigh unkillable. Stick them straight into water or moisten the soil every few days and let them flourish. They remove toxins and look great, and are an excellent starter plant.
7. Peace Lily
This is definitely the most beautiful plant on the list, and it’s no slacker when it comes to air purification. This plant can be toxic if eaten, so keep it away from pets and children.
